Yesterday my 5 year old daughter and I were having a nice Panera picnic and started talking about Jesus’ death and resurrection seeing as Easter is just days away. If you know my daughter at all, you know two things about conversing with her. Firstly, there’s a lot of My Little Pony talk. Secondly, things can get weird and confusing real fast. She can get off topic mid-sentence leaving her converser in the dust while they scratch their head in confusion.
With that in mind, I had to be a little strategic in my approach to capturing her attention. Here is what we ended up with (I’m sorry to those who do not watch My Little Pony):
God is Princess Celestia, ruler of all Equestria.
Ponyville is Earth.
My daughter (and all of us) is Princess Twilight Sparkle.
Twilight is the princess of friendship. She is supposed to show love to everyone, teach other ponies in Ponyville how to love and learn about love and friendship just like God tells us to love everyone and teach others to love.
Twilight was a unicorn but was transformed by Princess Celestia into an alicorn (aka she got wings which could be viewed as our Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us flight to share the gospel, the same power Jesus had on earth).
Twilight was grafted in as a princess, she was made royalty. She can now enter into Princess Celestia’s throne room any time she wants. She can ask her anything she wants and gets a personal response straight from Celestia. We are like Twilight Sparkle. When we ask Jesus into our hearts, we become His brother, grafted in His inheritance, allowed to enter the throne room any time we want and ask the King of Kings anything we want and get a personal response.
The conversation ended by my daughter stating that her baby brother can only say “Pika” instead of “Pikachu” so there’s that.
