Tomorrow is the first day of our social distancing school week. I’m not sure about any other moms but I have felt a little overwhelmed looking at all the social media suggestions and, especially, Pinterest.
I have two things on my side coming into this week: my children really love to learn and “play school”. I will admit—I’ve always loved to play school. From the time I could wag my index finger at my dolls, my mom has told me stories of bossing pretty much everyone around trying to “teach them” my ways. Hopefully, this week won’t be such a dictatorship!
Though our Spring Break was technically last week, I was eager to keep the kids on track with a loose school schedule. Monday was a great day. I had crafts, themes, snacks, classes, worksheets. I mean it was pretty much full-blown school. But then Tuesday came and I was exhausted and the kids were cranky. They didn’t want to play school anymore. And I read the news. And I got discouraged. And it all fell apart.
I realized I was putting way too much pressure on myself and even on my children. Though I strongly believe that structure helps a child to feel safe and secure in times of uncertainty, we also needed time to breathe and just be.
So these posts and schedules are, hopefully, to aide a mom who is just feeling overwhelmed with information. Maybe you could take what I do and mold it to fit your family’s needs? I don’t know…but I hope.
